Røros is a well preserved mining village in Norway, with lots of historical interests.
Røros is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The traditional timber buildings and log houses line the intimate streets with small shops and cosy cafes. The atmosphere of bygone days awaits in every narrow passage and around every corner.
I recommend a visit to the museum, situated at the Malmplassen near the church. The museum is a replication of the old Smelthytta (don't know an English word for this.) Inside the museum you will find models (in 1:10 scale) of the many aspects of mining, definitely worth a visit.
Also of interest: the waste dumps from the mining (known as slegg or slagg as in Slegghaugan) can be found in large quantities east of the Hyttelva. You will also find some well preserved old buildings on this side of the river.
