Welcome to a photographic hike through the Dolomites.
|
The following is a photo gallery of a hike I and fellow travellers did this summer to the Dolomites mountain range in Northern Italy. It is an abridged version of the original Norwegian version, abridged in the sense that it contains less text, but the same pictures in an easily browsable format. Just hit the small pictures to see a larger version.
Note that all photos as seen on these pages are automatically generated from the originals which are of 2mega pixel size (1600x1200) and varies in storage size from 400 kilobytes to more than 1200 kilobytes. After my automagical 'make' script has done its job, the photos are scaled down to a smaller version and use between 60KB to 140KB of storage size. This is a more appropriate size for viewing on low resolution monitors. The downside of this is that some pictures may contain noticable noice elements introduced by the jpeg compression.
First day was by plane to Milano, then by bus up to a village called Lago di Braies which was to be our starting point.
An excited group of people hiking along a very nice route to Rifugio Fanes, 2060 meters above sea level.
This day turned out to be an even greater day than yesterday. We passed some amazing scenery and ended up at Rifugio Lagazuoi at 2752 meters above sea level, the highest point during the whole trip. A magnificent view could be seen at sunset.
Yet another beautiful hike, much shorter than the two previous days, though. Our goal was Rifugio Scoiattoli situated close to Cinque Torri, a famous formation used by mountain climbers.
This morning we could experience the sun rising from behind Cinque Torri, an amazing sight. Our hike today was to Citta di Fiume, close to the mountain called Pelmo.
Day 5: To Rifugio Sonino al Coldai Today's hike is to Rifugio Sonino al Coldai situated at the north rim of the mountain called Civetta. Yet another nice evening at sunset.
Today we are hiking on the west side of Civetta. Then down to Listolade, and back to civilization again. Finally by bus to Bolzano where we stayed for the night.
The last day we had some ours to kill before heading by bus back to Milano, then by plane back home. |
